They Manage Servers

Let all those other MSPs go trawling for the big fish of the Fortune 500 ... We Manage Serves is casting its nets out for the minnows of the managed services market:  small to medium-sized businesses.

Sure, it takes a lot more minnows to fill your boat. But there are thousands of those little guys for every half-ton sailfish and they need managed services too, says President and CEO Peter Abraham.

While small businesses tend to use mostly shared hosting, Perchansky’s betting that a good number of the ones that stick around and expand eventually will want dedicated servers for their web sites.  They won’t have the in-house expertise to manage those servers, though ... which is where his company comes in.

A division of Dynamic Net, We Manage Servers uses an ASP model to offer data center-independent, remote monitoring and reporting services starting at $150 per month, compared to the $10,000-and-up tabs of pricier MSPs.

Its secret?  A small IT staff without the certifications to command killer IT salaries, but with the hands-on know-how to deliver the company’s service promises.  Over the long haul, We Manage Servers also hopes to build a relationship with one of the higher-ended MSP’s -- like SiteSmith or StrataSource -- so it has a place for staffers to advance as they gain experience and marketability.

Aiming to spin off soon as a separate company, We Manage Servers is dangling most of its marketing lures in front of web hosts and data centers looking for value-added services they can pass on to their customers.

It won’t throw back a bigger fish if one bites, though:  Verio signed on early this year for We Manage Servers’ advanced monitoring services as a way to help deliver on its own SLA’s.
